DAFNIS PRIETO BIG BAND
Please listen to two tracks from Dafnis Prieto’s first Big Band recording, below, recorded in August on the heels of the world premiere at New York’s Jazz Standard. They should convey why we feel compelled to share this music already in advance of the album release in the spring of 2018.
Dafnis’s compositions, all originals, are distinguished by jubilant, lush, and counterpoint-rich melodies and propelled by infectious polyrhythms, often reflecting his Afro-Cuban folkloric roots. The music is passionately brought to life by a 17-piece powerhouse band anchored by Prieto’s longstanding sextet and featuring many of New York’s top musicians.
